The Halse Farm Campsite

Welcome

We are working towards reopening the Campsite on July 4th, following Government guidelines. Things will neccessarily run slightly differently and we would appreciate your help in this and follow any instructions given.
The safety and wellbeing of local communities, guests and staff are of paramount importance to us.
Please do not travel if you or any of your party feel at all unwell.
We are opening the shower/toilet block with extra cleaning and sanitising routines. Access will neccessarily be restricted with no queueing inside. If you have  your own facilities please use them to avoid congestion. We will allow a toilet tent as part of your pitch.
Please consider bringing as much of your own food and drink as possible to reduce further pressure and congestion in local shops.
Please bring your own sanitiser, hand soap, disinfectant, toilet roll, gloves and masks. We will provide hand sanitiser etc but cannot provide extra.
Children must be supervised at all times and encouraged to maintain social distancing.
Dogs must be kept strictly under control and cleaned up after.
Please do not invite or entertain visitors, gather in social groups or break the social distancing rules.
You can walk freely on the campsite observing  social distancing. Please do not enter any fields adjacent to the site. There is no restriction to walking on the moor which is right outside our gate.
Many of the local shops and pubs will be open inluding the shop (open Mon, Weds, Fri and Sat mornings only) and tearooms in the village, the Coop in Dulverton and the excellent village shop in Withypool.  Tarr Farm Inn and the Royal Oak at Withypool will both be open. The Royal Oak in Winsford is open for take away meals only.

Halse Farm Caravan and Camping Site, is our peaceful, family run campsite in the Exmoor National Park.
Halse Farm campsiteHalse Farm Campsite is a small, peaceful park for touring caravans and tents. We are adjacent to the moor on a working farm producing beef cattle and sheep. We are surrounded by beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife including the endangered Exmoor ponies which live wild on Winsford Hill, free roaming red deer and soaring buzzards. We have been awarded a David Bellamy  Consevation Award for many years helped by an amazing diversity of bird life and you may well be visited by hedgehogs during your stay which enjoy clearing up food scraps.

Halse Farm Caravan and Camping Site has a quality, clean, heated toilet block, with free hot showers.

Exmoor is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers…walk out of our front gate onto Winsford Hill for miles of marked walks on moorland, in woodland or beside the rivers, all with a good chance of spotting local flora and fauna. We can supply laminated maps of the local area with six circular walks starting and finishing on the campsite with lengths varying from 2 miles to 12 miles. We are an ideal base for walks further afield too. Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor’s highest point is not far away and there is the coastal footpath to the north.

Exmoor was designated a Dark Sky Reserve in the autumn of 2011 and we have excellent viewing from the campsite or you may like to venture onto the moor with a telescope.

Dark Skies Park
The village of Winsford is only a mile by road or slightly further if you choose to walk via the footpath. We have a village shop within the Royal Oak Inn which is open daily from 8.30 to 12.30 except Sundays. It has a range of essentials including papers, bread and milk. It also provides a Post Office service on Tuesday and Friday from 10.00 to 12.00.

The beautiful thatched Royal Oak Inn serves bar and restaurant meals and allows children and dogs and has a garden.

  • Bridge Cottage Tearooms gives you the choice of indoor or outdoor eating with a varied locally sourced menu and delicious local ice cream.
  • Winsford also has an attractive church which is open for visits and would welcome you for a service- times are displayed in our information room
  • We also have a garage for repairs. The nearest petrol is at Wheddon Cross or Dulverton, both about 5 miles away.
  • Winsford is often referred to as the prettiest village on Exmoor and it is certainly worth exploring to find all of the six bridges.

Further afield Halse Farm Campsite makes a good base for visits to Dulverton, Dunster, the Doone Valley, the Coastal Footpath and coast towns such as Porlock Weir, Lynton and Lynmouth and 3 miles away are the famous Tarr Steps, an ancient clapper bridge over the river Barle (with a handy pub right beside the river)
